Sing the Glorious Mystery!
May 30, 31 and June 1
ScholaSF marks 10 years of fine singing in a joyous program mixing ancient with modern and new with the familiar. Highlights include masterworks of the high renaissance, Josquin Des Prés' Missa Pange Lingua, written for the feast of Corpus Christi, and Nicolai Gombert's Magnificat Octavi Toni, as well as ScholaSF classics by Duruflé, Poulenc, Messiaen, Tavener, and others. ScholaSF makes its first appearances in three exciting venues: First Presbyterian Church of San Anselmo in Marin County, the rustic and beautiful Old Mission San Juan Bautista, and St. Luke's Episcopal Church in San Francisco.

Don't miss our exciting season finale and debut with the Berkeley Festival and Exhibition on June 7th and 8th in ALESSANDRO STRIGGIO'S MASS FOR FIVE CHOIRS
MISSA SOPRA ECCO SÌ BEATO GIORNO IN 40 AND 60 PARTS
Cal Performances and the UC Berkeley Department of Music present the American premiere of Alessandro Striggio's Missa sopra Ecco sì beato giorno in 40 and 60 parts, the largest known contrapuntal choral work in Western music. Written under the auspices of the 16th-century Medici court and recently discovered in the Bibliotèque Nationale de France by UC Berkeley musicologist and renowned harpsichordist Davitt Moroney, this example of Florentine art at its most spectacular is "a masterpiece...not just the choral event of the year but possibly of the decade," said London's The Guardian of the work's modern day premiere at the BBC Proms in 2007. Moroney himself conducts the musical performance force that will include the American debut of United Kingdom's His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts, Wim Becu (contrabass sackbut), and five different choirs.
